Cake-love!

I had two lovely wake-up calls today: 6:45 and 9:00.  Guess which one Veruca was responsible for?

Breakfast I was quite hungry for some old-fashioned cereal today.  Kashi Heart to Heart, Almond Milk, a banana, and obligatory coffee.  Absolute perfection.

I then ran off to cake decorating class.  I have so much cake baggage that it took me two trips to the car, and two trips to class.  I need to figure out a better system.

So, as I previously mentioned I am taking the Wilton Course 3, Fondant and Tiers course. Today on our agenda was:

  • making fondant and gum-tex roses
  • covering our first cake in fondant
  • decorating cake to look like a present/package

The rose – compared to the butter cream and royal icing roses, was far easier to work with and much more realistic.  I found building the rose very therapeutic.  Unfortunately we only had time to make one.

We then worked on rolling out our fondant to the right size to fit our cake.

This is as far as we got in class – 2 hours of class and we made a rose and covered a cake!  That means that a lot of cake decorating was going to go on at home.  We learned how to make the bow for the cake, but didn’t have time to make and place them ourselves. With nothing major on the agenda until dinner, I let this be my afternoon therapy.

Tada!

The course called for a white cake, with a pink bow, and white outlined flowers. I wasn’t feeling it and went with the black polka dots and black rolled fondant bead border.

I would absolutely call my first fondant experiences a SUCCESS! Although it took nearly 3-hours to complete decorating, I enjoyed every moment and am excited to learn more and create more.  Definitely my favorite class yet! will review the ED&BV Coconut Cake tomorrow!

Dinner tonight was a trip to Hoboken with the fam for some Mexican.  The lighting was terrible and I’ll leave you with this terrible mango margarita shot that tasted fantastic.  Nite!
